For the announcement of the upcoming Netflix original series, Operation Safed Sagar, Dia Mirza opted for an ivory and gold sari from one of her go-to labels, Anavila. The look, despite leaning on a traditional weave, appears of-the-moment, thanks to its intricate details. “I chose to wear a conscious celebration of the quiet strength, integrity and inner resolve that Kamal in Operation Safed Sagar embodies,” she wrote.

“Dia Mirza is wearing the Seher Natural sari from our ‘Prelude to Festive’ collection. Handwoven in natural linen, the sari features gentle ivory and gold stripes, finished with delicate lace and handwoven zari. It carries a timeless, old-world festive charm, reimagined with a modern sensibility,” shares designer Anavila Misra. A delicate lace border edges the drape, while handwoven zari glints add some shimmer.

There is a reason linen continues to be India’s year-long uniform. Breathable, durable and naturally temperature regulating, it works just as well in summer heat as it does layered through cooler months. Its appeal lies in its versatility and honesty. Linen creases, but beautifully so. It ages well, softens with wear and carries the imprint of the wearer. The natural textile bridges comfort and elegance, making it ideal for modern capsule wardrobes. As a sari, it feels especially relevant for women who want tradition without weight.

Mirza’s handwoven linen drape is modernised with lace as the sari’s border, creating a dialogue between classic Indian dressing and Baroque-era romance. The modest gold blouse rounded off the look. Her choice of pearl jewellery sealed the mood, mirroring the romanticism of the linen-meets-lace sari. She opted for a multi-layered pearl necklace by Tribe Amrapali, along with matching jhumkas that lean towards a chandbaali silhouette, a pair of kadas, and a statement ring. Her makeup followed the same philosophy. Her hair was styled in soft curls. A dewy base, kohled eyes and nude lips keep the focus on texture and glow.

The beauty of a sari like this lies in its wearability. If styled with an embroidered or a gold gota patti blouse, it can be effortlessly elevated for a daytime wedding ceremony. Swap that for a lace blouse to shift its mood to an intimate family gathering or leisurely brunch.
