For a friend’s destination wedding, Bhumi Pednekkar championed Regency era romance in a pastel lehenga. Part of Shehla Khan's latest couture collection, her ensemble felt like it had been pulled directly from the pages of a Bridgerton script. With the popular Netflix series’ new season renewing the fascination with Regencycore, the actor’s choice to wear this lavender lehenga set could not have been more timely.

True to the collection's title, Romance Reimagined, Khan revisits the codes that first defined her eponymous label. “The idea behind each look of this collection was to go back to the original aesthetic of the brand. The textures, soft prints and intricate detailing come together to create unique and feminine styles that can be worn through years and seasons,” reveals Khan.

A soft lavender print of large roses is emblazoned across a fluid lehenga skirt. “This lehenga skirt is paired with a bustier style blouse inspired by the romance of Victorian style with a lingerie-esque detail and embroidered buttons.” The blouse, with its scalloped lace neckline, structured printed cups, sensual open back and delicate buttons, brings corsetry codes into the Indian occasion conversation without feeling costume-driven. Puffed sleeves in sheer lace lend volume at the shoulder, further reinstating Regency silhouettes. “The dupatta, which is coordinated with the print of the lehenga and lace of the blouse, amplifies its lightness and adds the traditional touch,” adds Khan.

Pednekkar’s stylist, Nidhi Jeswani, accessorised her look with a pair of chandbali earrings and a ring from Shri Paramani Jewels. Pednekkar braided her hair with lace trims, reinforcing the romantic mood.
Regency era style romanticises femininity through flirty florals, fine trims and floaty silhouettes. In recent seasons, designers and celebrities have embraced these elements, translating historical cues into modern wardrobes. Pednekkar’s lehenga interpretation demonstrates how those references can be seamlessly adapted into Indian festive dressing.
